We hope that the following information will help you as we navigate a temporary return to remote learning for pupils in years 8, 9, and 10. We will endeavor to update this page frequently.
Q. My child has free school meals. How will I order these from Thursday this week as your initial email only asked for details for Tuesday and Wednesday?
A. As we were unsure about the level of demand for Free School Meals we operated a Google Form for the first two days, during the school closure. Moving forward, if you would like to request free school meals, please email the school at and we will be able to provide meals, and coordinate the collection of these meals for your child.
Q. When do pupils go back to school?
A. At the moment we do not have an answer for this. We are working as fast as we can, with structural engineers, to design and build a system that will make the building safe for students to re-enter. As soon as we know more, we will let you know.
Q. How will pupils access online learning?
A. We will be using Google Classroom as the central point for online learning. Further details on this will be shared via MCAS, but students can prepare for their lessons by downloading the Google Classroom, Google Meet, and Google Docs apps from either app store for Android or Apple devices (phones and tablets). This may mean that you no longer need access to a laptop at home. Students will follow their normal timetabled lessons, and the normal times of the school day (details on the MCAS message, and via the website).
Q. What about students in year 11, what happens to them?
A. Year 11 pupils will be back in school from Thursday attending all lessons as normal. Impact to year 11 will be minimal. The only impact will be lessons moving from the B Block to other parts of the school. They will get this information on Thursday when they return.
Q. Do students need to attend AM and PM form?
A. Yes, we have planned a range of activities to keep students motivated and engaged with school during this challenging time.
Q. Why does Go4Schools not work?
A. We no longer use Go4Schools. Please download the My Child At School App by Bromcom, and use this app to receive all communication from school. Pupils have their own version of this app that they can sign in with.
Q. Can my child still attend after school clubs?
A. Absolutely! We are doing everything we can to keep as much of the normal running of the school operational. Rehearsals, fixtures, external evening bookings will still continue as normal.
Q. What do I do if my child has forgotten their school login details?
A. Please email with your query and a member of the team will get back to you as soon as possible. We aim to respond to all emails within 48 hours.
Q. My child's laptop doesn't work. What should I do?
A. Your child may be able to use their phone or a tablet device to access online learning. Please see if they can download the Google Classroom, Google Meet, and Google Docs apps from the Apple/Android App stores. If they are not able to do this, please contact the school via and ask for a laptop to borrow. We have had significant demand for devices and we will do our best to get a device for your child as soon as possible.
Q. What does my child do if lessons in the sixth form at Huxlow?
A. All lessons for sixth form students will return to normal from Thursday. Buses will be in operation.
Q. All day online is a long time. How will my child cope with this?
A. Pupils will not be expected to be on the computer for the whole lesson every lesson. Pupils will have breaks between lessons, and teachers are working to ensure a range of activities are set to complete work. We hope this helps pupils with the amuont of screen time, but we are happy to work with individual families to support their child as required.
The two videos below may help you navigate Google Classroom and learn how to access the live lessons that are taking place.
