Good afternoon

I am pleased to inform you that Aspens won the catering contract and will be commencing business with us following the half term break. Next week I will share more about their business and examples of their menus. Aspens will be putting their artistic touches to the canteen and enhancing the environment so that our pupils will notice a change upon their return after half term.

55 school days of year 11 lessons left before the intensive GCSE period starts. Please can you ensure that they attend well so that we can work with them to achieve the best grades. We have no time to spare, pupils have got to put maximum effort in. If only I could wave a magic wand and fill them with the resilient skills they need; some pupils are still too quick to give up and hold themselves back for fear of getting it wrong. 5,4,3,2,1 just do it and feel free to make the mistakes now so that together we can get it right for when it counts. The word that I have used a lot this week is tenacious, which means (to me) don’t give up, hold on to your goals and keep going until they are achieved. Tenacious Team Rushden – perfect!

Year 10 are really beginning to demonstrate these skills actually, I have had the pleasure of reviewing some of the year 10 history assessments and been impressed with the effort made and marks achieved. Well done.

Year 7, 8 and 9 will be encouraged to write more creatively in Science and Humanities subjects in the coming weeks to develop their literacy skills which will help them in English too. They will be expected to work independently for longer, to think more without interruptions to develop their resilience and tenacity.

We have set out 2 more school benches and 1 picnic bench in the playground and soon to be unveiled are 4 further outdoor seating areas. The toilets will be updated in March, I am pleased with the site managers plans and I am sure our pupils will be too. We must continue to look after what we have and respect out environment. Lunchtime at Rushden Academy is bursting with activities, we will take some photos and share them with you in due course – it is impressive. This week I thought I would share a cake Miss Anderson made for the adult side of Team Rushden. Every Friday we sample cakes from different departments in school eg. admin, site etc. This week it was the turn of art, design and technology, absolutely delicious baking by the whole team! Happy staff teaching happy students – what more can we ask for?

Have a good weekend and do encourage our youngsters to revise and complete their school work to their best ability.
