In year 7 you will study many different aspects of science from all three of the main sciences (Physics, Chemistry and Biology). The work is split into twelve individual topics based around ideas in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. You will learn about the key ideas of science in each topic and how we can use them in everyday life. It’s about why science is important and useful and not about just learning and remembering lots of facts! Some of these topics include :-

Tissues and Transplants – This is all about cells, both human and plant. How these build all living things and how the organs of your body work together. There may even be some dissections to see (not human of course).

Bubbles, bangs and burning - This topic is all about chemical reactions - ranging from the simple ones to fireworks. Lots of mixing bubbling and setting fire to things!

The solar system and beyond – How do we explore space without going there? This is when you find out just a fraction of what is out there in space. A great intro especially if you want to go on to study GCSE Astronomy in year 9!

Supporting your Child

Encourage students to use and complete their homework on Edmodo. Additional support materials are also placed on here for students to use in preparation for assessments. We also strongly encourage students to watch science based programmes on television as this helps them to gain a wider base of understanding in terms of how science is applied and its importance to society.

Supporting your Child

PC and Internet access is very useful. All of the free educational programs we use are Windows-based; there are Apple Mac versions of most, but they tend not to be compatible if students want to bring work to college. Homework is often set as part of the IT and Computing curriculum and can often be research based and forms an important part of the learning in the lesson.
