Year 7 provides students with a range of different ways to learn about the basic techniques in drama, including good stagecraft practice, performance skills and characterisation. Through exploring exciting units such as The Curious incident of the dog in the nightime and energetic styles such as Physical Theatre, students learn how to rehearse effectively, work positively with others to and prepare scripted scenes for performance.

Having learned the basic skills in year 7, Year 8 students begin to explore more challenging units and learn about different drama styles and genres as well as working in a much more physical style. As the year progresses students prepare scripted duologues from plays such as ‘Our Day Out’ and explore the process of devising original drama in ‘Susan Coleman’. Students will continue to work on the disciplines of becoming a focused actor and an imaginative drama student particularly during the Physical Theatre style used in schemes such as ‘Hunger Games’. Students at this stage are offered the opportunity to continue to study Drama at KS4 by choosing it as an option moving into year 9.
