At GCSE you will learn how to improve your performing skills and through your work in composing you will gain an insight into how music is constructed from initial ideas through to the finished product.

You will also learn how to analyse music in a variety of styles and discover the social and historical context in which music has been composed over the last 400 years or so, ranging from Mozart to Moby and West Side Story to Indian Ragas.

Supporting your Child

Encourage your son/daughter to practise their instrument on a regular basis

Perform with other young musicians. Groups such as the Northamptonshire county ensembles and Saturday music schools are ideal.

Encourage your son/daughter to attend concerts to listen to live music.

Listen to a wide range of music

Provide practise opportunities for keyboard work – access to a keyboard or piano is ideal, but keyboard apps for smartphones and tablets are also suitable.

Take your son/ daughter to listen to live music whenever possible.

Encourage your son/ daughter to support the college productions or attend local performances in the area.

Support your son/daughter if they want to learn to play an instrument. There are many ways of learning from internet tuition to school lessons.
