On our second learning year 10 embarked  on the task of designing a presentation of a “healthy Relationship”. The Task was intentionally left open ended with the desire that the year group would come up with creative responses.- I wasn’t left feeling disappointed!

The year group was split into new teams working with peers they hadn’t worked with before. Clear leaders soon emerged and began organising the teams into sub groups, where every student took on a role they were comfortable with but more importantly they felt was a personal strength which they could bring back to enable team success.

Roles included researchers who provided statistics of abusive relationships in the UK, across Verbal, Physical, Economic and Sexual amongst key advice and guidance. There was drama extracts that portrayed both healthy and unhealthy relationships to include friendships, parent and child, hetro and homosexual relationships all devised and performed with a 3 hour time frame.  The list when on to include the use of technology to create a video showing the exchange of text messages, creative writing  devising Poems and lyrics which were then recited.  The priceless moments was endless- as their Head of Year I was left speechless and moved by the year group’s maturity to create and present on such a sensitive topic.

Looking back over my year here so far and seeing the year group yesterday I am honoured and proud to be head of year 10.

 Miss R Burrows

Poem Written by a Year 10 Student

People will make mistakes

They will say stupid things

Everyone makes bad decisions

Because they don’t always think

Situations will happen

People come and go

Although they will always listen

Even when you say NO!

Nobody’s perfect

Everyone has flaws

Even if you think you don’t

Other will be able to see yours

Sometimes when you’re feeling under the weather

That one person will be there to make you feel better

Healthy relationships are good

People will always be there

Even if they do not show it

They will always care
