Wishing you a very warm welcome back after a baking hot summer, in fact the hottest on record. Talking records I am thrilled to say that this summer Team Rushden’s results were tops! I hope that you saw the announcement in the local paper, if not it is on our website, take a look because we have named our top performing pupils both for progress and attainment. The BBC reported that Nationally the results in English for grade 4 (a standard C) is up 0.5% to 66.9%, here at Rushden Academy our year 11s achieved 78.5%! Apparently, Nationally girls do better than boys, here at Rushden the boys actually did better. There were some amazing individual results, one pupil with targets of standard 6 actually achieved standard 9’s in nearly every subject, we are so very proud of him and all our year 11 achieved.

A great set of GCSEs opens doors, it was interesting to read in the BBC news that the best paid jobs are within a short commute from us. It is our responsibility to ensure we equip our youngsters with the right qualifications and skills to make full use of these opportunities on the door step.

More students than ever before have stayed on into the 6th form, some have returned to us after leaving last year to go elsewhere because “we deliver better lessons.”

We do listen and act upon your comments, our school environment has been improved over the summer, the changing room toilets are much nicer and science has been painted throughout. I do hope that when you next visit you will see how much we take pride and care about our school and all those that dwell in it! The Art area has been transformed and it is so inspiring how creative our students and staff can be.

We are working ever more closely with the Tove Learning Trust and have recently collaborated on a grand scale, over 600 staff met and shared best practice and resources this week. There has been a film produced to inform you about Tove Learning Trust, this will soon be uploaded to our website. I would also like to inform you that a film crew will be visiting our school on Friday 14th September to film aspects of school leadership. This is being produced as a learning tool and will be used in universities worldwide, it will be looking a different elements of leadership and school transformation. Sage Productions will be predominantly interviewing and working with teachers but there will be some classroom based activities, they will meet our year 11 student leaders and visit a year 7 assembly. We are reviewing information signed by yourselves to make sure filming can take place and no names will be used. Also to note that the company will be escorted throughout the day. If you do have any concerns please contact your son/daughter’s Head of Year. We are very much looking forward to sharing all we have done to dramatically improve our school, and we are determined to put Rushden on the map!

Last of all I would like to thank you for sending your son/daughter into school looking incredibly smart! We have had very few issues and these will be resolved. In Team Rushden we have unwavering high expectations and we expect everyone to try their best. Thank you so much for supporting the Team and putting your trust in us. I very much look forward to working with you this year and welcoming you into our ever improving school.
