It is official we now belong to Tove Learning Trust, this is excellent news for the school and already we are forging strong relationships. Resources are being shared and staff from Sponne School, which is graded as outstanding with outstanding exam results, are working closely with our teachers here. The support and challenge received so far is second to none, and I truly believe that we have a very exciting future ahead.

Year 10 were buzzing today discussing applications for Head Boy and Head Girl positions and their deputies. I am pleased that our students want to represent our school so passionately and continue to work together driving through improvements. It is an excellent opportunity for our pupils, Mr Middleton and Mrs Finney have carefully considered how we can develop their role and responsibilities so they gain invaluable experiences. Here are a few:

  •  Speaking to the public at school events e.g. Transition Evening / Open Evening / Presentation Evening
  •  Representing the school e.g. East Northants Youth Conference
  • Interviewing prospective staff as part of the student panel
  •  Showing visitors around the Academy e.g. Y6 students on tours
  •  Being involved in planning social events e.g. Prom
  •  Giving ideas and opinions on how to improve areas of the school as part of the Student Forum and Student Council
  •  Writing articles for the Academy Newsletter
  •  Support younger students in school e.g. Reading Buddies
  •  Leading on driving through pupil plans to improve the environment
  •  Out-reach community work

The list is not endless and we want our pupils to come with ideas that they want to develop too. The 4 pupils appointed will need a team of pupils around them so they can really have an impact so we will also be appointing pupils to represent the student forum and the prefect team. They will be allocated a budget and will need to delegate roles of responsibility to their team. We want our pupils to gain a range of skills and experiences that they can use for job applications, sixth form applications and even university applications.

Although we are planning ahead we cannot forget the work of our current Head Boy, Head Girl and their deputies, but before I thank them and say goodbye we will remain fully focused on their GCSE exam preparations. I can see such determination in our pupils and I am delighted that so many pupils are accessing GCSE pod. Miss Vessey shared the statistics this week: Total pods streamed is 3122, the top 3 students are in y11. We intend to display the stats in the main corridor so we can see which year group are the best podders along with top pupil podders! We will give prizes for the best podders achieving the best assessment results too.

I must also share the fact that our pupils are auditioning for Rushden’s got talent, they are taking it so seriously and are so keen to share their plans with me. They make me smile, they have such different ideas, it’s brilliant and I cannot wait for the finale on Thursday 24th May at 7pm, tickets are £3 and I would suggest you purchase these soon from reception. Tonight I saw a group of cheer leaders practicing too, maybe these were rehearsing for Grease; school is certainly bustling. Absolutely the best job in the world!

Have I heard right that we have good weather forecast for a bank holiday weekend? Let’s hope so, please do enjoy the extra time with your families and please encourage y11 to do their ‘power hours!’ Year 13 are equally busy with examination preparation and I also wish them all the best with their revision plans.

Take care and thank you for reading.

Mrs J Burton
