Absolutely blown away again this week! It started with the success of Team Rushden in the Rotary Youth Speaking Competition, our sixth form students Jack, Gaby and Caitlin are now through to the Regional finals. This is a tremendous victory, beating steep competition across the County! Go Team Rushden, we wish you all the best and are very proud of you.

Then came the news that Ms Holmes was representing the school on radio Northampton discussing ‘Prison, Me? No Way!’ This was really successful and some of our pupils have been invited to discuss this further on Radio Northampton this weekend.

On Tuesday the school day was collapsed to have our Learning for Life day. We had 35+ visitors on site and they were so complimentary of our pupils. I am sure later in this bulletin you will see some cracking photos. I couldn’t sum it up better than an email I received this week:

"I just wanted to say a massive well done to those who organised yesterdays ‘Learning for Life day’. The whole day was absolutely excellent and the students were brilliant. Every session was really well delivered with the students’ welfare at the heart of each session."

Thursday night was an amazing tribute to Harry Potter, Nicola and Maria excelled themselves in the library. The pupils loved it especially the weird and wonderful creatures! Watch out for the photos. Thank you!

We are always looking at ways to improve and ever moving in the right direction to be part of Tove Learning Trust (TLT). Even though we are a few months away from the potential transfer, they have been incredibly generous with their time and support already. Their way of thinking is in synch with ours, they believe in Team Rushden and the difference we continue to make daily.

The last thing I want to mention are the interventions we are planning across school to improve numeracy and literacy skills, not only are we investing in staff to support pupils, but we are also investing in electronic resources. We have been researching the best products on the market, so please watch this space for more information.

I expect year 11 to be in full swing of their ‘power hours’ and making sure that:

  •  They know their weaknesses and are addressing them with the help of their subject teachers.
  •  They practise papers and rehearse timings.
  •  They don’t leave any gaps and just have a go, nothing to lose but everything to gain.
  •  They know what the exam command words mean and what examiners are after.
  •  They attend period 6s
  •  They attend the half term offer.
  •  They work out how many marks they need to achieve their target grade and how many marks to achieve the next grade up.
  •  They identify patterns in exam papers, what comes up time and time again?
  •  They see perfect model answers
  •  They take care with their spelling and grammar
  •  That practise typical exam questions and do their corrections and learn from mistakes now.
  •  That they use they time wisely eg at form time and they use the resources we have provided like the revision guides.
  •  That they revise using a variety of ways and are ready for their March mock exams.

Thank you for taking the time to read, you are always welcome to come and visit and witness first-hand how our school is dramatically improving.
